What you need to prepare
1. Software to download and install
(a) Ableton Live 12
- Download the free trial for 30days https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/ -
- Get all the features of Live 12 Suite free for 30 days.
- you can join our group buy on 7 September to buy your own set of Live Intro, or Live Standard, or Live Suite, with additional discount.
(b) ASIO4All audio driver (for Windows users)
- Download and install from http://www.asio4all.org/

2. Hardware that you will need
- Your own computer/laptop, Windows 10 or 11 or Mac OS X 10.11.6 above
- Headphones (you won't hear the music fully on laptop)
- Mouse (much better control than trackpad)
- Optional
- MIDI keyboard - if you don't have one, we will teach you how to use the computer keyboard
- Launchpad or equivalent
3. Samples and Loops for Lesson 1
Here are links to download six sets of free and legal samples and loops. You can choose which set you want to download, or download all of them. This link will expire on Monday 26 August 2024.
4. Something to try before the workshop
Visit https://learningmusic.ableton.com/ to Get Started Making Music. In these lessons, you'll learn the basics of music making. No prior experience or equipment is required; you'll do everything right here in your browser.
