How to play a Major Lazer song live with audio effects in Ableton Live

 1. Download the Major Lazer stems from the link https://clubremixer.com/category/major-lazer/, and extract the Zip file into its own folder

(stems are the individual parts of a song e.g. synths, snares, percs, kicks, acapella (vocals), bg (background vocals), synths, etc.)

2. Use the Add Folder icon to add this folder to your Ableton Live browser

3. Check Options - Settings and make sure in the 'Record, Warp, Launch' tab that 'Auto-Warp Long Samples' is Off

 4. In Session Mode (everything vertical), drag the following stems onto Audio tracks one by one. Each stem should have its own Audio track. You'll notice Ableton Live only has 2 Audio tracks by default. You can either Menu - Create - Insert Audio Track, or drag the WAV file onto the blank space at right which says "Drop Files and Devices Here"
  • kick
  • 808 bass
  • snares
  • hats
  • synths
  • acapella clean 1
  • acapella clean 2
  • bg (background vocal)
5. Put the Audio tracks into Groups so that you can process them easily. Do this by highlighting two or more Audio tracks, then right-click-Group or type CTRL-G. These are the tracks to group together
  • Group 1
    • kick
    • 808 bass
  • Group 2
    • snares
    • hats
  • Group 3
    • synths
  • Group 4
    • acapella clean 1
    • acapella clean 2
    • bg (background vocal)
  6. Add Audio Effects to each Group
  • Group 1: EQ3 and Delay
  • Group 2: Delay and Phaser-Flanger
  • Group 3: Delay and Redux
  • Group 4: Delay and Reverb
7. Map the Dry/Wet controls of the Audio Effects to either your MIDI controller's knobs, or to the keyboard

  • Enter MIDI Map Mode by pressing the MIDI switch in Live’s upper right-hand corner. Notice that assignable elements of the interface become highlighted in blue, and that the Mapping Browser becomes available.
  • Click on the Live parameter that you’d like to control via MIDI.
  • Assign this parameter by turning a knob, etc., on your MIDI controller. You will see that this new MIDI mapping is now listed in the Mapping Browser.
  • Exit MIDI Map Mode by pressing the MIDI switch once again. The Mapping Browser will disappear, but you can always review your mappings by entering MIDI Map Mode again.

You can do the same with the keys of your laptop keyboard
